90 days prior to your departure.
Time for shopping is usually but not always allowed for
within the framework of most of the sightseeing programs.
And actual time available for shopping may be limited due to
tour constraints. Fortunately, in Egypt, what you see in one
place is generally available somewhere else. Shopping
recommendations will be made by your Tour Manager, who
is an expert in all things Egyptian and can even provide a
lesson or two on the art of the barter. Larger stores accept
most major credit cards. Market vendors and small stores
will usually only accept local currency. It is a good idea to
take a small amount of cash to use as baksheesh (tip), or
for purchasing souvenirs or sundries.
Each cruise and tour program features comprehensive
included shore excursions with a local English-speaking
guide designed to provide you with the best possible experience
ashore. We also offer, from time to time, optional
excursions designed to enhance the range of sightseeing
already included in your program.
These optional excursions will be available for purchase
upon your first arrival day in Cairo or when you are onboard
the ship. Optional excursions are subject to cancellation if
a minimum number of participants is not met.
A complete day-by-day shore excursion itinerary is provided in
your Cruise and Tour Companion.
Our suggestion for tip per day, per guest would be: $2-$3 USD for the local guide and $1-$2 USD for the driver. At the end of the trip there will be two envelopes to be used for tips, one for the crew and one for the Tour Manager. Our suggestion for tips at the end of your cruise would be: $4 USD for the Tour Manager and $6 USD for the crew on the ship (per day, per guest). All tipping is cash only.
Meals are served in the dining room in a single sitting. There is open seating so you may sit at different tables for each meal if you wish to meet other fellow passengers. All meals on board the ship are included.
All meals on board are prepared by accomplished chefs and consist of local food adjusted to suit the tastes of international passengers. There is a buffet breakfast and in Europe a buffet lunch including a choice of soups and main courses with appetizer, salad or sandwich and dessert. Dinner is a multi-course meal with choice of soups and entrees. Wine, beer & soft drink is included with all onboard dinners. In Europe, regular coffee, tea & iced tea are available free of charge throughout the day from the self service coffee stations.
Loose-fitting, lightweight fabrics designed to be layered are
your best option for daytime attire due to the variance in
temperatures in Egypt. We recommend short-sleeved shirts,
Bermuda-style shorts, sun dresses with sleeves, cotton skirts,
and khakis. Mix-and-match solid color schemes work best to
help keep baggage light. Modest dress is expected for women
in most places. That means no tank tops unless onboard the
ship or worn under another shirt; no bare-back or sleeveless
sun dresses, again, unless worn onboard the ship; and no short
shorts. You'll find a lightweight jacket may come in handy for
the evenings. Hats, sun block, and sunglasses are essential. You
will find a significant amount of walking over uneven terrain
during your time ashore. We recommend comfortable walking
shoes with good ankle support. Sturdy sandals are another
good option. For evenings, any resort-type wear is perfectly
suitable, though we kindly ask that you refrain from wearing
shorts to dinner. Men may want to bring one sport jacket for
dressier restaurant venues in Cairo and for the onboard Gala
Dinner. Women find a cocktail dress or two always come in
handy no matter the destination.
Credit cards are accepted at major tourist establishments but are not widely accepted at smaller shops.ATMs abound in the tourist areas of Egypt.
It is highly advisable not to drink the water out of the tap due to high cholrine content. Bottled water is widely available.
Airport Transfer Information
Transfers are available 24 hours on the date of arrival and the date of departure. Normally the wait is not more than 30 minutes.
Terms & Conditions:
Yep, all the boring small print! We still recommend you read it all though, as no one likes surprises. Click here to read them now - they will open in a new window, or print them off to read over later with a cup of coffee!
