| Tall Timbers Hotel, Smithton |
Where Bass Strait and the Indian Ocean collide gives the edge of the world a "global point of difference". In this unique corner of the Island, locals and visitors breath the cleanest air in the world all year round. At Tall Timbers, the "Edge of The World" is literally at your doorstep. The far North West coast of Tasmania is one of the last wild places on the planet. From the breathtaking scenic coastline, the natural and untamed wilderness of the Tarkine, to the rolling hills of the fertile dairy, beef and crop-producing areas that are the edge of the world, there is undiscovered adventure around every corner. The main hotel complex was constructed and finished externally and internally with 95 percent local Tasmanian timbers grown and harvested from the Circular Head Area. Local saw-millers, Kauri Timber, now known as Gunns Timbers, produced the Tasmanian Oak, while Britton Brothers and Greys Timbers produced the specialty timber veneers and the stunning wall panels and dados that are featured throughout the property using Tasmanian Black Wood, Blackheart Sassafras and Myrtle. The massive columns both inside and outside the main entrance to the hotel complex were purchased from local farmers and squared by a skilled local identity using only a chainsaw. Hotel Features
