What size can my suitcase be?

Porterage for one suitcase on tour is included in the tour price. We regret we are unable to accept a second suitcase, or any luggage exceeding these limits. Who else will be travelling with me, and how many will be on tour with me?

Cosmos attracts a wide range of clientele of many ages from all over the English speaking world. Cosmos offers an affordable way to travel and as such the size of the Cosmos group can vary from departure to departure. A Cosmos coach can carry up to 51 passengers however on many tours the number of passengers is below 50 people.

Do you have Cosmos tour reviews I can read before I decide?

We request feedback from past clients who have travelled with Cosmos and booked with Global Journeys. You can read their Cosmos touring reviews here, and each of our tour itinerary pages displays past client reviews relating to that particular tour.

Will the coach be modern and comfortable, and how many will be on tour with me?

Your Cosmos coach is a quiet smooth-riding high cruiser, equipped with soft, semi-reclining lounge seats, huge pan windows, a high-fidelity sound system, and air-conditioning. There is a no smoking policy enforced on the coach, but there are plenty of opportunities to smoke during the frequent stops. Cosmos uses the custom of daily seat rotation which gives every tour member a variety of vantage points to see the passing countryside and city scenery.

Where will my hotel be located and what will it be like?

After a day of travelling you want to relax at a comfortable, clean, and attractive hotel. We have chosen hotels with the best rooms, service and food for the money. Of course, they vary as different countries have different standards. However, we ensure that everywhere you get the best available in cleanliness and comfort.

Cosmos hotels are always located in good neighbourhoods, some more centrally located than others in residential areas. Especially in large cities, we sometimes prefer good hotels in residential areas on the outskirts to less desirable or overpriced downtown hotels. Rooms at all our hotels include private bath or shower and toilet. Triple rooms are usually no larger than twin rooms and the third bed is often a roll-away bed put into a twin-bedded room just for the night. You can read more about the accommodation on tour below.

What is the difference between a tour director and a local guide? What are they like?

Your tour director will accompany you from the start to the end of your tour, educating you on the places and the history of the destination. Local guides are included in many cities to give you in-depth information on the culture, history and attractions of the city. Both Tour Director and Local Guides have a passion for travel, people and the destination and look forward to sharing their passion with you. If you chose to book either a "pre" or "post" - tour extension, please note that your Tour Director may not escort you during this part of your tour. However, in such cases, a Local Host will be available should you require any assistance.

I'm finding it difficult to match two tours together?

Have you considered pre or post tour accommodation? We offer fantastic rates hard to find elsewhere and this may enable you to select sequential tours with minimal disruption to your intended travel plans.

What does the tour cost include?

Our packages take in each destinations’s most popular highlights. They are carefully planned to include visits to places of interest and panoramic drives through areas of natural beauty. There’s so much for you to look forward to! In Europe, you can cruise down the Rhine River; visit Athens, Istanbul, Lisbon, Madrid, Moscow, Paris, Rome, Venice, Vienna, and other great cities with knowledgeable Local Guides. And in North America you can ride a snocoach on Alberta’s Columbia Icefield, tour Washington DC and Québec City with expert Local Guides, and cruise the swampy waterways of Louisiana’s bayous. Please refer to the itineraries for a complete description of what is included in the holiday of your choice.

Do coach tour prices include tips to Tour Directors, Drivers & Local Guides?

It is customary worldwide to pay tips to Tour Directors and Drivers on all international vacations and these are not included in your quote. The option to prepay these tips prior to departure is possible however. Please ask your consultant to include this in your quote. You will receive Gratuity vouchers with your travel documents and all you need to do is give this to the Tour Director and driver or Cruise Director and ship's crew at the end of the vacation.

Are there optional excursions & is there much free time?

In addition to included sightseeing, we offer a rich program of optional excursions, all full of interest and very reasonably priced. The success of an escorted holiday depends to a large extent on the operator’s skill in striking the right balance between scheduled group activities and free time. Cosmos planners try to give you as much free time as possible. Leisure time is important so that the less energetic can rest and the independently-minded can roam on their own. Your Tour Director is always on hand, with shopping tips and suggestions for optional side trips and entertainment.

What can my London Host offer me?

Cosmos offers a hospitality desk at all London Cosmos hotels. Our knowledgeable staff will serve you with a smile; give you guidance on what to do and where to go; and arrange excursions, evening entertainment and theatre outings for you.

Do you have a share program for singles?

More than one-third of all people travelling with Cosmos are single or traveling alone. To give you an alternative to the single room supplement we accept reservations on a 'guaranteed share' basis. We charge the basic price and match up singles of the same gender in twin bedded rooms. If no other traveler has booked on 'guaranteed share' basis, we'll absorb the single room supplement, and that traveler will be accomodated in a single room at no extra charge. About Cosmos

It all began more than 80 years ago when a young man purchased a rowboat to transport visitors across Lake Lugano, Switzerland. Who would have thought that this single rowboat would launch one of the world’s leading travel companies?

In 1928, Antonio opened a company specializing in motorcoach touring called Globus Viaggi. The company began with a fleet of 12 coaches which operated local excursions for European tourists in Switzerland. Antonio's frequent trips across the scenic lake led him to consider opportunities in a different market tourism. His entrepreneurial instinct pushed him to gradually acquire some motorcoaches to transport tourists around the Lake Lugano area.

By 1950, Globus Viaggi had grown to a fleet of 33 coaches and featured overnight excursions to Rome, Venice, the Dolomites, and the French Riviera. Gradually, these became regularly scheduled tours and grew longer  to cover more ground. Later that decade, under the leadership of Werner Albek, Antonio's business partner, Globus pioneered the concept of Grand European Touring by offering first-class European tours to North Americans. By 1961, the company launched its Cosmos arm, which featured affordable, budget-priced European touring for the cost-conscious British traveler.

Under the flagship of Sergio Mantegazza, current president and son of Antonio, the company began expanding its markets beyond Great Britain and North America. Starting in the 70s, the company expanded its tour offerings, introducing travelers to more countries than any other tour operator with packages to Africa, USA, Canada, Europe, the South Pacific, and Asia.

Today, the Globus family of brands is a global company reaching every corner of the world. Combined, Globus, Cosmos and Avalon Waterways carry about 500,000 passengers a year making the organisation the leading operator of guided touring worldwide. At the core of the company are Antonio’s ideals of passion, hard work, innovation and love for travel. These values are the cornerstone on which Cosmos was built and will continue to grow for generations to come.

Cosmos hotel ratings follow standards set by the independent Hotel & Travel Index and by state or province tourist board.

Meals

Meals in Europe
You’ve probably heard stories about high European food prices, and some are certainly true. The Cosmos budget formula also works here to your advantage. We’ve taken care of a large portion of your meals, and yet left you enough free time to sample Europe’s gastronomic delights on your own.

A full cooked breakfast is provided daily in Britain (except London). In London and on the Continent, buffet breakfast is included daily and consists of coffee, tea or hot chocolate, orange juice, cold and hot milk, cereals, yogurt, two types of bread, croissant, jam, butter, and cold cuts (cheese, ham, salami). Many dinners are also included. They are three-course meals and feature perhaps soup or pasta, a main course with vegetables or salad, and dessert. Regional specialties are often offered.

We don’t include hotel dinners where they clash with show times or where dining out at local restaurants is a major attraction. We don’t want you to have paid for a meal that you then skip to take advantage of the best a city has to offer. Your Tour Director knows the local scene and can guide you to restaurants, nightclubs, and other places of entertainment in an affordable price range.

Most lunches are not included, and your Tour Director will prove invaluable in showing you where you can lunch inexpensively. He or she will point out small cafés and restaurants where the locals eat. Perhaps you’ll want to sample one of the local cheeses or sausages. Buy some crisp fresh rolls, and wash it all down with inexpensive local wines and beers. Eating “European-style” can be a lot of fun and a truly memorable experience.

Meals in North America
Cosmos travel packages vary as to the number of meals included. As most of our hotels offer anything from coffee to a full breakfast, you can start the day the way you like best.

At most lunch stops, your Tour Director will have information on local restaurants. When your itinerary includes a special event, such as a cruise on Prince William Sound, lunch will be included.

Dinnertime is your chance to sample local cuisine. Sometimes your Tour Director will offer an optional dinner outing. At other times, he or she will recommend a restaurant. Years of research have taught us which establishments reliably serve a good choice of dishes at down-to-earth prices. All provided meals are clearly stated

Coaches
Your Cosmos coach is a quiet smooth-riding high cruiser, equipped with soft, semi-reclining lounge seats, huge pan windows, a high-fidelity sound system, and air-conditioning. There is a no smoking policy enforced on the coach, but there are plenty of opportunities to smoke during the frequent stops.

Extra nights before and after your tour
If you require extra nights at the first and/or last vacation hotel, we will make reservations for you at the rates quoted, provided you request them at the time you book your vacation. Rates are per person, per night, and include room with private bath, breakfast, service charges, and taxes.

Extra nights are only available immediately prior to or after your vacation. Every effort will be made to reserve extra nights at the hotel where your vacation stays. If space at the hotel is not available, alternative accommodations will be reserved at a hotel of equivalent standard. When this is the case, the transfer from and to the vacation hotel is at our expense.

As hotel space is limited, we cannot reserve more than two extra nights before and/or after your vacation, unless they are needed to bridge the gap between two Globus vacations. During particularly busy periods, hotel space in certain cities can become so tight that we may be unable to sell extra nights.
